Glory Days

16 x 11 inches pencil and coloured pencil on Bristol board. The idea for this piece came recently when I managed to track down and get in touch with an old army buddy of mine. We hadn't seen each other for well over 30 years so there was some catching up to do. Conversation kept harking back to shared experiences all that time ago, perhaps our 'Glory Days'. We're not as old as these two characters by a long chalk but the story could be similar, perhaps two old comrades sharing a joke at a memorial parade. The poppies in full colour signify remembrance day, the rest in black and white signifying fading memories. The expression on the older gentleman's face shows deeper thought, maybe he has memories he keeps to himself. The other chap is obviously enjoying life now and remembers the good times.
